ARCHEOLOGY SITES
Site numbers are used to designate specific information about important archeological resources in Kansas. The numbering method is based on the Smithsonian's trinomial system to label sites.
The number for the Tobias Site in Rice County is:

- The numbers indicate the state: 14 for Kansas (alphabetically the 14th state prior to the admission of Alaska and Hawaii)
- The two-letter code represents one of the 105 counties in Kansas: RC for Rice (different than the common county abbreviations used on state license plates)
- The last number is unique for each site in a county:8 (the order in which the site was listed, grouped by institution; those registered by the Kansas Historical Society are 300s)
