NATIONAL REGISTER
REGISTER OF HISTORIC KANSAS PLACES
Established in 1966, the National Register includes properties that generally retain their historic appearance and are at least 50 years old. Many types of properties are listed including archeological sites, banks, barns, battlefields, bridges, courthouses, depots, hospitals, houses, libraries, parks, and roads. Listed properties are eligible to apply for state and federal financial incentives. The Historic Sites Board of Review, a group o 11 professionals from various fields, meets quarterly to review and recommend nominations.
State list of historically significant properties
The Register of Historic Kansas Places was established in 1977. It includes properties listed in the National Register. Not all properties in the state register are included in the National Register. The state register is more flexible in interpretating criteria for eligibility.
